Streatham Odeon by Cuppa T

Streatham’s local Councillor Mark Bennett unearthed this brilliant video on YouTube this morning. It features a song from 1967 by a band called Cuppa T. Mark describes it on Twitter as “a charming 1967 sub-Kinks song”. He’s not wrong. The Small Faces also spring to mind. It is a love song to a girl who sells ice cream at Streatham Odeon and includes the line “In thirteen years it appears she’s not grown older. Her smile is just as warm, her hands a little colder”. Genius.

Click here for another song by Cuppa T called Miss Pinkerton. Or here for some of Mark Bennetts own video tributes to Streatham.

It’s nice to see the video up and running on Streatham Pulse. Just one small correction, the beloved lady written about is not quite flesh and blood. Terry and I wrote the song about the ageless on-screen ice cream lady, who made her appearance during the intervals. That’s why she remains, ‘a celuloid reflection of projection on a cinerama screen’

If it hadn’t been for Terry emailing me tonight, I would have never know about either song. After I listened to both of them,I relalized that they are true classics. Both the songs, the singers and writers.

Great to hear from you Viv. Apologies for my misinterpretation of the lyrics. A great song and one of the best entries on Streatham Pulse so far. If only I could find little gems like this every day.
