Trains

Streatham is well served by trains with three mainline stations operated by Southern Railways.

Streatham Hill is the most northern station at the junction where Streatham High Road meets Leigham Court Road.

From here trains go north to Balham, Wandsworth Common, Clapham Junction, Battersea Park and on to Victoria. Trains also go to West Norwood, Gipsy Hill and Crystal Palace, and from there on towards either London Bridge or West Croydon.

Streatham is situated just over half way down Streatham High Road next to the Old Safeway (now Morrisons).

From here trains go north to Tulse Hill, North Dulwich, East Dulwich, Peckham Rye and on to London Bridge. Thameslink trains follow this route to Tulse Hill and then take a different fork to Heren Hill, Loughborough Junction, Elephant & Castle, Blackfriars, The City, Farringdon, Kins Cross/St Pancras, and further on through North London. Trains also go south on a loop to Tooting, Haydons Road, Wimbledon Chase, South Merton, Morden South, St Hellier, Sutton Common, West Sutton, Sutton, Carshalton, Hackbridge, Mitcham Junction.

Streatham Common is further south on Estreham Road, just off Greyhound Lane.

From here trains go north on both forks either to Balham, Wandsworth Common, Clapham, Junction, Battersea Park and on to Victoria; or to Streatham and on to London Bridge that way. Trains head south in the direction of Croydon.

Tube

Streatham is not part of the tube network however it is very well positioned near the Victoria Line in Brixton, from where it is only 15 minutes to Oxford Circus. It is also close to the Northern Line stations of Balham, Clapham South & Clapham Common, all of which are very easily accessed by bus.

If you like walking it is approximately a twenty minute walk from the top of Streatham Hill down to Brixton or Clapham South. Balham is also approximately twenty minutes walk away if you walk down the side streets of Telford Park from Streatham Hill.

There is currently  a campaign to bring the tube to Streatham which began recently, when news came to light that TFL were considering extending the Bakerloo line south and were looking at options, one of which would include a branch to Streatham Hill. The campaign was started by Labours parliamentary candidate for Streatham, Chuka Umunna, but has also been taken on by a resident, Kent Martin who’s Streatham Tube campaign has gained the support of Chuka, as well as the current MP for Streatham, Kieth Hill, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Streatham, Chris Nicholsan and Councillor Mark Bennett.

Driving

Streatham High Road is situated on the A23 which is the main route from London to Brighton, on the south coast. The A23 starts just south of Westminster Bridge and goes through Kennington and Brixton before joining Streatham and carrying on south through Croydon before joining the M23 near the junction with the M25.

The A205 (South Circular) cuts across the A23 at the top of Streatham Hill. Traveling eastwards on the South Circular will take you through, Tulse Hill, Dulwich, Forest Hill, Catford, Greenwich and on to Woolwich where a ferry will take you over the Thames to North Woolwich by London City Airport. Travelling in a westerly direction the South Circular takes you through Clapham, Wandsorth, Putney, Barnes, East Sheen and then Kew where Kew bridge will take you north of the river to join the A406 (North Circular).

Cycling

Streatham High Road is not very well suited to cycling as it forms part of the busy A23 road from London to Brighton. There are however a number of good routes that can be taken to avoid the busy traffic. Below is a map showing start points of various cycle routes with links taking you to a relevant page on Cycle-Route.com which details the distances, difficulty etc.

As safety is a big concern to cyclist everywhere, but in Streatham in particular I have included a link to a map of road cycling black spots.

Once I initially commented I clicked the -Notify me when new feedback are added- checkbox and now every time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any method you possibly can take away me from that service? Thanks!
